Some of the notable judges include James Wen, Hong Hui-Fang, Angie Chai, Lester Hsi, Chi-Chi Fan, Lyra Fu, and Alain Hao for Chinese submissions.
The inaugural RisingStories International Story Pitching Competition was a huge success, and the judges are eager to see this year's submissions. Taiwan's renowned producer, Angie Chai, who is behind the hit drama "Meteor Garden", says, "No matter how wild your story is, you're welcome to submit it." Director Lester Hsi, who has judged the competition for two consecutive years, feels honored to be a part of the event and has been impressed by the rich cultural diversity of previous submissions.
Actor James Wen, who won the Best Supporting Actor award in Taiwan’s Golden Bell TV Awards for "The World Between Us", says that as a judge, he will focus on different aspects of the stories and leave his subjective opinions behind. He will use his years of experience in acting and reading scripts to help the participants. Actress Hong Hui-Fang, the winner of the Best Actress award at the 8th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, notes that while she has a preference for heartfelt or artistic stories, she will reset and take a fresh look at each submission to find its creativity and highlights. She also stresses that logic and rationality are essential to a convincing story.
Screenwriter Chi-Chi Fan, who won awards for "The Making of an Ordinary Woman," believes that originality, uniqueness, and passion are key to a successful submission. She is excited to see the distinctiveness of the writers and what they have to offer.
The competition is open to anyone anywhere and the submissions can be in the form of feature films, Mini Series or Regular TV Series. The final three winners for both the Chinese and English categories will be selected based on their originality, uniqueness, passion, creativity, and executability of their story.
The organizers have also arranged a series of master classes and pitching workshops in Taipei and Singapore, to help the participants enhance their skills and refine their ideas. For more information, interested individuals can visit the official website or the Facebook Fan Pages.
